Out
of Hours Emergencies
There is always a doctor on call. Telephone the surgery at all times and you will be told how to contact a doctor. When the surgery is closed you will be given the telephone number of the out-of-hours service for this area. This is a very special service providing prompt expert attention for you in an emergency out of normal surgery hours. Please remember out-of-hours calls should be restricted to distressing/serious illnesses. Please only ring for advice if you are particularly worried. The service is not designed to give second opinions or to replace surgery attendance in the daytime. The duty doctor covering emergencies will arrange treatment for the patient as is deemed medically appropriate. They may request that the patient comes to the out-of-hours base, attends the GP surgery, the doctor's home, casualty or other hospital department, or visit the patient at their home or other appropriate place.
Patients can also contact NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 if they require general health advice or information, or visit www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk.
